New Electrical Safety Requirements (Effective 1 January 2025)

As of 1 January 2025, new requirements have been introduced into the Queensland Electrical Safety Regulations 2013.

These regulations require that, before our technician enters a roof cavity to carry out pest control treatment, the relevant electrical installation for the building must be de-energised. Once the technician has completed the treatment and exited the ceiling space, the power may be re-energised.

What You Need to Do:

Before your appointment, please review and complete the electrical safety authorisation form. This ensures compliance with the law and keeps everyone safe.

Precautions
  • Vacate the area while treating
  • Remove or secure your pets
  • Food and water bowls to be covered or tipped upside down
  • Ensure food items are put away
  • Careful of wet floor surfaces to avoid slip hazard
  • Access to manhole
  • Clean any items exposed to treatment before use

Preparation for Case Moth

Our Hitman Technician will need to treat ALL wool/wool blend carpet on the day of treatment.

The following is a suggested preparation to help with the process of eradicating Case Moth from your home.

Preparation

We advise you to clear as much furniture and belongings as possible off the carpet including carpet areas inside your wardrobes and cupboards and to make accessible any left-over carpet pieces so our technician can treat all areas.

Vacuum thoroughly, especially underneath furniture and around skirting boards before our technician arrives.

Vacuuming both front and back of any loose carpet pieces or rugs. Also include vacuuming any animal skins and furs. Doing so will eliminate any residuals from larvae, eggs, and cocoons.

When you have finished vacuuming, remember to empty the contents of your vacuum to an outside bin. If you have a bagless vacuum, we suggest wiping the inside of your vacuum with a damp cloth and disposing it into an outside bin.

After Treatment

Once treated do not vacuum for 2 weeks, then regular and thorough vacuuming is essential for the
success of the treatment. Under furniture and at the edges must be included with each vacuum.

German Cockroaches

German cockroaches are an introduced species of cockroach and have become very common in Australia. They breed very quickly so an infestation of German cockroaches can happen before you notice them.

We can treat for German cockroaches but do ask you follow the below preparation before our technician arrives to treat your property.

Preparation

We recommend that all open food stuffs are put away.

All affected cupboards to be emptied and placed in either plastic containers or placed away from the affected area. We would suggest any electrical appliances remain in the kitchen area for inspection i.e., kettle, toaster, coffee machine. By doing this you are stopping the spread of the German Cockroach to other areas of your home.

Other areas to check:

  • Removal of any indoor rubbish.
  • Regular Cleaning of kitchen appliances of any food particles
  • Checking preowned electrical appliances
  • Regular cleaning of pet dishes and containers
  • Removal of any cardboard, especially any packaging materials.
  • Leaking sinks and appliances create conditions in which German cockroaches thrive.

Ants in the Yard

Preparation

The grass should be recently mown. Previous day or morning of treatment is ideal. This treatment is granules spread over the grass area. The office will try to book your job for a morning, this is so the grass still has some dampness to it to aid with the treatment penetrating to the desired areas.

Remove animals and pets from the area to be treated. Cover or remove any open food and water containers.

If your dog eats any of the treatment, contact your veterinary surgeon immediately.

Advise your technician if you have any fishponds or aquariums before treatment.

Fleas

Fleas are very difficult to eradicate without the help of the consumer.

We have put together this preparation for you to follow.

Preparation

  • Vacuum all floor areas and dispose of the vacuum bag to an outside bin. If your vacuum is bagless, please wipe the inside of the vacuum with a damp cloth then dispose to an outside bin.
  • Clean or vacuum furniture, especially between and under cushions.
  • Clear all, or as many items from the floor area in all rooms.
  • Cats and Dogs should be treated with a veterinarian flea treatment.
  • Wash all pet bedding in hot water or destroy it.
  • Cover fish aquariums with a towel, you may turn off the filtrations and aeration systems. Please show our technician where your aquarium is inside the house.

After Treatment

  • Do not avoid flea infested areas after the treatment. You will reduce the effectiveness of the treatment – especially remember the spare room, shed or places where the pet likes to rest.
  • If you remove the pet, flea problems may appear to be worse as you become the only potential host.
  • Entering vacant houses will stimulate any fleas waiting to hatch. This is especially a problem with vacant rental and holiday houses.
  • If you are going on holidays, have a friend walk through the house/yard several times while you are away, especially on the day of your return, the fleas will hatch and die on the treated surfaces before your return. (You will owe your friend big time!)
  • Do not vacuum for at least seven days after treatment. Dispose of the vacuum bag to an outside bin.

Silverfish

One of the easiest ways to spot silverfish is to identify the damage they are causing. Silverfish eat starchy food like paper, linens, clothing, and cardboard.

Preparation

Part of our preparation for silverfish is to empty any affected cupboard areas. I.e., wardrobes and linen cupboards. With wardrobes empty the lower area, so treatment can be carried out.

If the infestation is localized on the inside, one can assume that it is recent and was either brought in via infested items or represents a recent invasion from the outside. If the infestation is widespread, then the attention should be directed to the outside. Items stored against or near the exterior of the house must be removed to stop silverfish from entering the house.

Bird mites live and feed on the blood of birds. Even though bird mites need the blood of birds to complete their life cycle and survive, they can bite humans. The bites are similar to other insect bites.

Preparation

If your home is infected, please vacuum floor areas including soft furnishings. If bedroom areas are affected, we advise you to wash all bedding.

Locating the source which is often an abandoned nest or dead bird in the roof cavity or tree close to the house removing if possible.

Pet birds and chickens should be treated with a veterinarian bird lice treatment.
